Balos Beach in Crete

This image captures a breathtaking, panoramic view of Balos Beach in Crete, known for its striking natural beauty and unique lagoon formation. In the foreground, you can see sandy terrain with low, scattered vegetation, suggesting the photo was taken from an elevated viewpoint. Below, a wide stretch of pale sand curves around shallow, crystal-clear waters. The lagoon displays a gradient of colors—from very light, almost milky turquoise in the shallows to deeper shades of blue further out. A narrow sandbar extends across the water, connecting the mainland to a large, rugged island (Gramvousa Island). This island dominates the center of the image, with its dry, rocky surface and sparse greenery rising gently into a plateau-like shape. In the lagoon, several small boats and yachts are anchored in calm, shallow waters, and tiny figures of people can be seen wading or walking across the sandbar. The sea beyond the lagoon turns a deeper blue, stretching toward the horizon under a clear, cloudless sky. This photograph belongs to the 'Summer in Crete' collection.
